Wimbledon Adopts Video Replay Technology in 2025.

The Championships tennis court with video review system

Wimbledon will follow the US and Aussie Opens in utilizing replay technology.

Video review systems will be launched at The Championships in the upcoming tournament.

Competitors will gain the option to challenge particular calls made by the chair umpire, echoing the protocol currently in place at both the US Open and the Australian Open.

This technology is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the other four featured courts when they are hosting singles contests.

This step comes just a year after the AELTC implemented ELC, which effectively ended the longstanding role of line officials.

What Can Be Reviewed?

Players cannot to dispute the call of the ELC system, but they can ask for the umpire to re-examine other situations, such as:

  • Whether a tennis ball has double-bounced.
  • Whether a shot made contact with an rival's racket or body on the way past.
  • Possible hindrance at the conclusion of a point.

Notably, there is no limit on the amount of challenges a competitor can ask for.

Case in Point

An illustrative incident took place in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev initiated the review system against Jack Draper.

The British player admitted it was a difficult situation for the umpire, but thought his rival had "used the regulations effectively."

Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a video and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to his opponent.

Wider Implementation

This technology are not new for Grand Slams. The system has been in use at the American major since 2023 and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the men's ATP Tour will have the system implemented at all of its events.

Additional Innovations

A further innovation at The Championships this year will be the addition of graphical cues on scoreboards to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.

This addresses situations where spectators have sometimes been unsure if a shot was in or out.

In other news, with exactly a century of days to go until the beginning of the tournament, the AELTC have further revealed an expansion in daily attendance at the qualifying competition in the qualifying venue.
